Payment Gateways in Bangladesh Compared (October 2026)
Short answer

There is no single best payment gateway in Bangladesh; there are four routes. Wallet number + TrxID (bKash, Nagad) needs no papers and works today, but you check every payment by hand. A wallet merchant gateway confirms bKash or Nagad payments automatically. An aggregator such as SSLCommerz, ShurjoPay or aamarPay gives you cards, wallets and internet banking through one integration, and is usually the practical choice once orders grow. Stripe and PayPal matter only for buyers abroad, and whether a Bangladesh-based business can open those accounts depends on each company's country rules. Gateways need a trade licence and charge a percentage per payment; rates vary, so get them in writing.

Once your online shop is live, the question is how customers will pay. Search for a payment gateway in Bangladesh and you will find a dozen names, each promising the easiest setup. This guide groups them into four types, explains what each needs, how fees and settlement work, and which fits a small shop versus a growing one. We do not rank providers. The aim is to help you ask the right questions before you sign. A Bangla version is available: বাংলাদেশের পেমেন্ট গেটওয়ে তুলনা.

What a payment gateway does

A payment gateway sits between your website and the customer's card, wallet or bank. When the customer presses "Pay", the gateway shows its payment page, takes the payment, and tells your website whether it succeeded. Later it sends the money it collected to your bank account, minus its fee. That transfer is called settlement, and its timing matters as much as the fee.

A good integration also verifies each payment server to server before the order is marked paid. A customer landing on your "thank you" page is not proof of payment; the gateway's confirmation is. If you are curious how this works in practice, our guide to bKash payment gateway integration walks through the flow step by step.

You can take online payments without a gateway, too. Show your bKash or Nagad number at checkout, ask the customer to enter the transaction ID (TrxID), and check it in your own app. The difference is who does the checking: the gateway, or you.

Comparison table

Comparison table of four ways to take online payments in Bangladesh: wallet number, merchant gateway, aggregator, international
Four routes at a glance, as of October 2026. Papers and fees vary by provider; confirm current terms when you apply.

Wallet number + TrxID

The simplest start. Money arrives in your wallet immediately and no gateway fee is added, though your account's own limits and cash-out costs apply. The downside is manual work: every payment must be matched by TrxID and amount, and you must watch for fake screenshots. For regular business income, use a merchant account rather than a personal one; see how to open a bKash merchant account.

Wallet merchant gateway (bKash, Nagad)

The customer picks bKash or Nagad at checkout, enters their wallet number, OTP and PIN on the provider's page, and the payment is confirmed automatically. It covers one wallet only, so it suits shops where nearly every customer pays the same way. Applications usually ask for a trade licence, owner's NID and bank details.

Aggregators: SSLCommerz, ShurjoPay, aamarPay

An aggregator bundles many methods behind one integration: local and international Visa and Mastercard, mobile wallets including bKash and Nagad, and internet banking. Paperwork is similar to a wallet gateway. Fees can differ by method (cards at one rate, wallets at another), and settlement goes to your bank account on the schedule in your contract. Which of the three suits you depends on the offer you receive, the support you get, and whether your website platform connects to it.

International: Stripe and PayPal

Buyers abroad expect to pay by card or PayPal. A website can add both, but the money goes into the business's own Stripe or PayPal account, and each company's country rules decide whether a business registered only in Bangladesh can open one. Check their current country lists before planning around them. Our guide to Stripe and PayPal in Bangladesh covers what works and what does not.

For small sellers

If you are just starting, take a few orders a day and do not have a trade licence yet, do not hold back sales while waiting for a gateway. A setup that works for many small shops:

  1. Keep cash on delivery on. Many customers in Bangladesh still prefer to pay when the parcel arrives, especially on a first order.
  2. Add your bKash and Nagad numbers with a one-line instruction, for example "Pay and enter the TrxID".
  3. Take part payment in advance for orders outside Dhaka or expensive items, at least the delivery charge. It cuts fake orders and returns.
  4. Reconcile once a day. Compare orders marked paid against payments in your app, and make sure no TrxID is used twice.
  5. Start the paperwork now. A trade licence and a bank account in the business name make the later gateway application much faster. See our trade licence guide for online businesses.

Never ship against a screenshot. Only the transaction in your own app, or the gateway's report, proves a payment.

For growing businesses

No order count makes a gateway mandatory. If two or three of these are true, though, it is time to apply:

  • Matching TrxIDs takes more than an hour a day, or needs a staff member.
  • Wrong TrxIDs, short payments or fake screenshots are becoming common.
  • Customers ask to pay by card, or offices and institutions want to order.
  • Orders placed at night wait until morning because nobody is checking payments.
  • You are spending on ads and cannot afford to lose buyers to a clumsy checkout.
Which payment setup fits which kind of shop in Bangladesh
Match the setup to where you are now, not where you hope to be in two years.

For most shops at this stage an aggregator is the practical choice, since one application covers every method. Keep the wallet-number option and cash on delivery for a while after the gateway goes live; loyal customers can keep paying the way they are used to.

What applications usually ask for

  • A valid trade licence, ideally in the same name as the website
  • The owner's or director's national ID and photo
  • A bank account for settlement, preferably in the business name
  • A live website with products, prices in taka, contact details, and refund, privacy and terms pages
  • Sometimes a TIN or company documents

Missing policy pages are a common reason applications stall. Get the current list from the provider before you start.

Notes on fees

Do not budget with a rate you saw in a blog or a Facebook group. Rates depend on the provider, payment method, business type and volume, and they change. When you get an offer, ask for written answers to these questions:

AskWhy it matters
The percentage per payment, by methodCard and wallet rates often differ
Any setup, annual or monthly feeYou pay it even in a slow month
How many days until money reaches your bankYour stock purchases depend on it
Whether fees are returned on refundsReturns cost more if they are not
How chargebacks are handledYou need to know who carries a disputed card payment

Keep the arithmetic simple: every 1 percent of fees is ৳10 on a ৳1,000 sale. Once you know your rate, build it into prices or delivery charges so online payment does not quietly eat your margin. Some sellers offer a small discount for paying in advance, because it reduces returned parcels; check whether that works in your numbers.

Payments on Metanoz

On Metanoz the online store (from the Business plan) supports these from Admin → Settings → Payment method:

  • bKash and Nagad numbers with TrxID. Money goes straight to your number; Metanoz takes no commission. Steps are in the bKash and Nagad payments guide.
  • Cash on delivery, switched on from the same page.
  • Your own SSLCommerz account. Enter your Store ID and Store Password; the connection is tested when you save, and each payment is verified server to server before the order is marked Paid. See the SSLCommerz guide.
  • Stripe and PayPal through the International Payments app (from the Business plan), for buyers abroad, paid into your own Stripe and PayPal accounts; whether you can open those is decided by each company's country rules.
Metanoz Help Center guide to taking bKash and Nagad payments with a TrxID
The simplest route on Metanoz: add your bKash and Nagad numbers, check each TrxID, mark the order Paid. The Help Center is in English and Bangla.

To be clear about the options: as of October 2026, Metanoz's payment options are bKash and Nagad numbers with TrxID, cash on delivery, SSLCommerz, and Stripe/PayPal. ShurjoPay, aamarPay and the wallets' own gateway APIs are not among them, so automatic local payments go through SSLCommerz. If you already have another gateway account, ask the Metanoz team before you decide. More on the store tools is on the features page.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best payment gateway in Bangladesh?

There is no single best one. If customers pay in many ways, an aggregator such as SSLCommerz, ShurjoPay or aamarPay is usually most practical. If nearly everyone uses one wallet, that wallet's merchant gateway can be enough. Compare written offers from two or three providers.

Can I get a payment gateway without a trade licence?

Usually not. Wallet gateways and aggregators normally ask for a trade licence. Until you have one, you can sell with cash on delivery and a wallet number with TrxID.

How much do payment gateways charge in Bangladesh?

A percentage of each successful payment, which varies by provider, method and agreement and changes over time. Also ask about setup or annual fees.

How long does settlement take?

It follows the schedule in your contract, typically a few working days. Ask before you sign, because your cash flow depends on it.

Can I use Stripe or PayPal for customers in Bangladesh?

They are designed for international card and PayPal payments, and whether a business based only in Bangladesh can open an account depends on each company's country rules. For local customers, wallets, cash on delivery and a local aggregator are the usual choices.

Does Metanoz take a commission on payments?

No. bKash and Nagad payments go straight to your number. With SSLCommerz, only the fees in your own SSLCommerz agreement apply.
