Google Business Profile for Bangladeshi Businesses: Setup and Tips
Short answer

A Google Business Profile is the free listing that puts your business on Google Maps and in local search results. To set it up in Bangladesh: sign in with a Google account the business controls, search for your business and claim it (or add it), choose the right category, place the map pin accurately, add your phone, website and real opening hours, then verify using the method Google offers, often a short video of your premises. After that, add real photos, keep hours updated for Fridays and Eid, and reply to every review. Link it to your website so customers can order or book.

When someone in Bangladesh searches "pharmacy near me", "best biryani in Old Dhaka" or "AC repair Mirpur", Google often shows a map with a short list of businesses before any website. Those listings come from Google Business Profiles. For shops, restaurants, clinics, salons, schools and service businesses with a physical location or a service area, this free profile is often the quickest way to be found locally. This guide covers setup, verification, filling it in well, reviews and connecting it to your website.

A Bangla version of this guide is available: Google Business Profile in Bangla.

What a Google Business Profile is

It is your business's entry on Google Maps and Google Search: name, location or service area, phone, hours, website, photos, reviews, and sometimes a menu, services or products. Customers can call, get directions or open your website straight from it. It used to be called Google My Business; the name changed, but the idea is the same.

Who should have one:

  • Businesses customers visit: shops, restaurants, clinics, pharmacies, salons, gyms, schools, coaching centres, hotels.
  • Businesses that visit customers: plumbers, AC servicing, pest control, movers, tutors. These can show a service area and hide their address.
  • Online-only shops with no place to visit and no local service: usually not eligible. Focus on your website and search instead; see SEO for online shops in Bangladesh.

Create and verify

Five steps to create and verify a Google Business Profile in Bangladesh
The process is free. Verification options are chosen by Google and differ by business.

Before you start

Use a Google account that belongs to the business and that the owner can always access. A common problem in Bangladesh is a profile created years ago by an employee or an agency on their own account; when they leave, the owner cannot edit it. If you add managers later, add them as managers rather than sharing a password.

Claim, do not duplicate

Search Google Maps for your business first. Customers or Google may already have added it. If it exists, use the option to claim or manage it. Creating a second listing for the same place causes confusion and can lead to both being suspended.

Name, category and location

Use your real business name as it appears on your signboard. Adding words like "Best Biryani Dhaka" to the name breaks Google's guidelines and can get the profile suspended. Pick the most specific main category that fits (for example "Dental clinic" rather than "Clinic"). Place the map pin exactly on your entrance; Bangladeshi addresses can be hard to read, so add a well-known landmark in the address line.

Verification

Google decides which verification methods are available for each business. Options can include a phone call or text, an email, a recorded video of your location, or a live video call. A video usually needs to show your signboard, the area outside, and something that proves you run the business, such as tools, stock, or a key to the premises. Follow the on-screen instructions closely; unclear videos are a common reason for rejection. If verification fails, read the reason, fix it, and try again.

Never pay anyone who offers to "verify" or "rank" your profile through shortcuts or fake addresses. Profiles created that way are often suspended, and you can lose your reviews with them.

Fill it in well

Google's own guidance says local results depend mainly on relevance, distance and prominence. You cannot change distance, but a complete and accurate profile helps with relevance, and real reviews and an active presence help with prominence.

Checklist of what a complete Google Business Profile should include
A complete, accurate profile does more than a long description full of keywords.

Hours, including Bangladesh specifics

Set regular hours, then use special hours for Fridays if they differ, Ramadan, Eid and other holidays. Nothing frustrates a customer more than travelling across town to a closed shutter that Google said was open.

Photos

Add real photos: the front of your shop so people can recognise it from the road, the inside, your products or dishes, and your team at work if they are comfortable with it. Avoid stock images and photos with text all over them. Add new photos every few weeks, especially of new products or seasonal offers.

Services, menu and products

Restaurants can add a menu, service businesses a list of services, and shops a selection of products. Include prices or starting prices where you can; it saves calls and filters out people looking for something else.

Posts and updates

You can publish short updates, offers and events on your profile. They are a simple way to show the business is active. Use the same offer text as on your website and Facebook page so customers see one consistent message.

Reviews

Reviews are one of the first things people read. They also affect how prominent your business appears. Handle them properly:

  1. Ask real customers. After a good experience, ask them to leave a review. A short link or QR code at the counter, on the receipt or in your delivery message makes it easy.
  2. Do not buy, swap or fake reviews. Reviews from friends pretending to be customers, paid reviews and reviews in exchange for discounts break Google's policies and can be removed, sometimes with penalties.
  3. Reply to every review. Thank people for positive ones by name. For negative ones, apologise for the experience, explain briefly what you will do, and offer a phone number to sort it out. Never argue in public.
  4. Report only genuine policy violations. A review you disagree with is not a violation; spam, abuse or reviews about a different business may be.

Short, polite, specific replies. Future customers read your replies as much as the reviews.

Many Bangladeshi customers write in Bangla or Banglish. Reply in the language they used.

Link to your website

A Google Business Profile is a signpost; your website is where people decide. Link them both ways:

  • Profile to website: add your website address, and where offered, links for ordering, booking or appointments that go straight to the right page.
  • Website to profile: show the same name, address and phone on your contact page, with a map, so Google sees consistent information.
  • Consistent details everywhere: the same name, address and phone number on your website, Facebook page and directories helps Google trust your listing.

On your website, make sure page titles and descriptions mention your area, for example "Dental clinic in Uttara". The SEO basics guide shows where to set these on Metanoz, and our Bangla SEO tips explain how to target searches in both languages.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Keyword-stuffed names like "Rahim Tailors Best Tailor in Dhaka Cheap": risk of suspension.
  • Virtual or borrowed addresses where you do not actually serve customers.
  • Old phone numbers that nobody answers.
  • Wrong hours during Ramadan and Eid.
  • Ignoring reviews for months, especially negative ones.
  • Profiles owned by an ex-employee or agency: check today who owns yours.

Where Metanoz fits

Metanoz does not create or manage Google Business Profiles; you do that in your own Google account. What a Metanoz website adds is the place your profile links to: menu and table bookings for restaurants, doctor serials and appointments for clinics, bookings with SMS reminders for salons and service businesses, and a contact page with your map. Every plan includes SEO settings for page titles and descriptions, a sitemap and an SEO audit, and Metanoz AI in the admin can help fix page titles and descriptions. The restaurant templates show what a site built for local customers looks like.

What to do next

Today, search Google Maps for your business and check three things: does it exist, who owns it, and are the hours and phone number correct? Fix those first. Then add ten real photos, set your Ramadan and Eid hours in advance, and make sure your profile links to a website page where customers can actually order, book or call.

Frequently asked questions

Is Google Business Profile free in Bangladesh?

Yes. Creating and managing a profile is free. Be careful of anyone charging for "verification" or promised top positions.

How long does verification take?

It depends on the method Google offers and on review times. Some profiles verify within days, others take longer or need a second attempt. Follow the instructions exactly, especially for video verification.

Can I create a profile without a shop address?

Yes, if you serve customers at their location, such as repairs or home tutoring. Set a service area and hide your address. Businesses that only sell online with no local service are usually not eligible.

Why is my business not showing on Google Maps?

Common reasons are an unverified or suspended profile, a wrong category, the pin in the wrong place, or strong competition nearby. Check the profile status first, then complete every section and gather real reviews over time.

Can I delete bad reviews?

No. You can report reviews that break Google's policies, such as spam or abuse, but not ones that are simply negative. A calm, helpful reply often matters more to future customers than the review itself.

Do I still need a website if I have a Google Business Profile?

The profile helps people find you; a website lets them see your full menu, services and prices, and order or book. Most businesses benefit from both, linked to each other.
